Errors in the use of dolomite flour and how they are dangerous for the garden

Errors in the use of dolomite flour and how they are dangerous for the garden

Dolomite flour is a natural fertilizer, crushed mineral rock, used to reduce the acidity of soils. It consists of magnesium and calcium salts, which are not deposited in excess in plants, therefore they do not harm the environment and are safe for humans. However, for the competent use of the substance, you should know the rules of use and compatibility with other dressings.

Simultaneous application with manure

Novice gardeners, when working on the site, often make the mistake of mixing dolomite with manure. At first glance, the decision is justified, because organic fertilizer has an acidic reaction, and flour reduces acidity. Their joint use should bring only one benefit: the organics necessary for the plants remain, and the acidity is neutralized.

And this is indeed so, which is confirmed by textbooks on agronomy, according to which the effect of liming is enhanced when used together with organic fertilizers.

But here there is one caveat: it is best not to use two types of feeding at the same time. Their combination leads to a chemical reaction with the release of ammonia, which is a consequence of the loss of nitrogen, and significantly reduces the value of organic matter.

Its aggressiveness is much less than when using lime, and will not lead to burning of the roots, but it is better to space the two operations in time.

First, oxidize, a little later, add manure. In the case when there is no time for phased fertilization, experts recommend first sprinkling the plot with dolomite, putting manure on top and digging it up.

An attempt to enhance the effect

Dolomite flour, lime, chalk are all substances that help reduce the acidity of the soil. Sometimes gardeners, wanting to achieve quick results, mix dolomite and other similar additives (eg lime).

There is no prohibition on the sharing of fertilizers, but with such an approach it is easy to miscalculate and violate the dosage, which will lead to undesirable alkalization of the soil.

It is also worth considering the more caustic properties of lime, which are detrimental to plants, due to which it is preferable to add this substance in the fall, so that the reactions have time to return to normal by the next season. The action of dolomite is smoothed, extended over time, does not harm the plants, the fertilizer can be used all year round.

Screenings and dolomite are not compatible

To improve the structure of the soil, increase its looseness, saturation with air and moisture permeability, summer residents use such an inorganic component as screening. If the screening is lime, then it already contains dolomite, so additional fertilization of the site with flour will become unnecessary, and possibly harmful. Granite screening opposite is "sour", for such an additive dolomite is necessary.

Apply superphosphate after 10 - 14 days

The topic of the combined use of superphosphates and dolomite is controversial. There is an opinion that flour in the vicinity of a mineral phosphorus-containing fertilizer leads to the appearance of a poorly soluble sediment and, like lime, blocks the absorption of phosphorus by plants. But not all experts agree with this statement. On the contrary, it is known from the course of agronomy that phosphorus becomes available to plants precisely in neutral soil, that is, after oxidation.

Moreover, there are recommendations on the use of mineral fertilizers in combination with lime fertilizers.

Given the discrepancies and ambiguity of the statements, it will not be superfluous to take advantage of the advice to take a break of about two weeks between applications of two dressings.

First, oxidize the soil with dolomite, create an environment suitable for the action of phosphorus fertilizer, and then use superphosphate.

Dolomite flour, in addition to changing the pH of the soil, helps in the fight against weeds, creates favorable conditions for the development of beneficial microorganisms, destroys beetles and slugs, helps to strengthen the immunity of plants, neutralizes salts of heavy metals and radionuclides. But it can also harm plantings with excessive fertilization. Therefore, it is important to know on which areas, under which plants and in what maximum amount it is permissible to make this useful top dressing.

Plant protection from bear, wireworm and ants - 100% effect

The companies' blogs contain information from manufacturers of gardening goods, agricultural firms, plant nurseries and specialized online stores. These materials may contain advertisements for products or services.

Soil pests of garden and horticultural crops are a headache for any summer resident. Especially dangerous are soil gnawing pests, which are highly fertile, have a short development cycle into an adult insect, and can quickly move in the soil over considerable distances. Such pests include bear, wireworm, garden ants.

It would seem that there is no government on them: you can dig up the whole garden and use a variety of methods of struggle, but the number of pests only multiplies over the years. Folk methods of destroying soil pests have a temporary effect, and only special means provide a longer effect. Correctly selected preparations and timely treatment of the soil and plants with them allow in a short time to significantly reduce the number of harmful insects or completely clear the site of them.

In the last decade, for summer residents, pest protection products that are safe for the environment (both soil, plants, and beneficial insects) have been widely presented. The complete destruction of soil pests is ensured by preparations developed by Technoexport. They have been known for a long time and enjoy success both in small plots and in large-scale agricultural production. The drugs developed by the company, subject to safety rules, do not pose a threat to gardeners, their families and pets and completely destroy malicious pests in the shortest possible time.

Fencing materials

A high bed is a frame of selected sizes, which is filled with soil mixture, fertilizers, compost inside. The standard high bed is given the shape of a rectangle. Various materials are used to design the frame.

The most common material is wood. The material is environmentally friendly, easy to arrange.

Logs, beams, boards are used to create a frame. The downside is that a protective treatment of the material is required, otherwise the wood will not last long. All this does not apply to decking, but its cost is quite high.

The second option is to use twigs and vines. It is also an inexpensive material, and the frame will look unusual, but beautiful. Wicker walls can be shaped to any shape. But it takes skill to build a framework. Another disadvantage is that the service life is short.

Plastic fences are easy to assemble. The material does not require preliminary processing, and it itself will serve for a long time. But some varieties contain toxic substances that will get into the soil, and then into the grown vegetables. Therefore, you need to carefully select the appropriate parts.

A concrete fence is made in cases where the frame and support must be as strong as possible. For example, this applies to situations where the garden is located on the very slope, as well as if the beds will have several floors. It takes the longest to construct such a frame.

The metal fence has a long service life. It is robust and mobile and can be easily moved to another location if needed. But the metal needs to be treated with anti-corrosion agents.

Fences made of brick and stone are usually made in a classic style. The installation takes a lot of time, while without the skills of working with these materials, beautiful and neat high beds cannot be obtained.

Slate fencing does not take much time to build, it will last for a long time. But when installing the material, you need to proceed carefully - slate is distinguished by its fragility.

Prevention of yellowing of cucumber leaves

For the safety of seedlings, after sowing the seeds, the state of the seedlings is monitored. In case of any negative changes, it is necessary to find out the cause and conduct treatment. In addition, for the health of the bushes, the following actions are regularly performed:

  • inspecting plants to detect the presence of pests
  • weeds are regularly weeded as they are the habitat of insects
  • irrigate plants in a timely manner and regularly loosen the soil to improve aeration of the root system
  • cucumbers are regularly fed in accordance with the norms and terms
  • periodically carry out preventive treatment of plants from pests and diseases.

Yellowness on the leaves of cucumbers does not appear if they are grown in compliance with all the rules of agricultural technology and regularly carry out preventive treatment. For this vegetable, timely watering, regular feeding is important. It is also obligatory to cultivate the soil and crops against diseases and pest infestation.
