How to get rid of aphids on the site using folk methods without the use of chemicals

Aphids cause significant damage to garden plants. Timely measures are needed to destroy it. Experienced gardeners begin to fight the pest using folk methods that are safe for plants and people.

Vodka

Depending on which part of the plant is supposed to be processed, the concentration of vodka is selected. Young leaves can get burned, therefore, to process them, vodka is diluted more. A stronger composition is used for the trunk and branches.

For a concentrated solution, it is necessary to dilute 20 g of laundry soap in a liter of warm water and pour in 300 g of vodka. The finished solution is used to treat trunks and branches with a brush. Apply the spray bottle only before the leaves appear or in autumn, after the foliage has fallen off. Vodka can be replaced with 150 g of alcohol. Laundry soap has an adhesive property, allowing the solution to stay on the bark longer.

A weak foliar treatment is prepared as follows. For 1 liter of warm water, take 100 g of vodka, add 20 g of previously dissolved laundry soap.

Spray in the evening, not forgetting about the lower parts of the leaves, where aphids usually hide.

In order not to harm young crops, preliminary testing is done: the shoot is sprayed, and the result is checked in a day. If the plant is in order, treat it as a whole.

Soap and soda

Grate laundry soap (40 g) on a coarse grater and dissolve in a little warm water. Soap particles can damage foliage, so they should not remain in the solution.

Warm water is added to the soap solution, bringing the volume to 1 liter, then 1 tbsp is dissolved. l. soda ash.

The resulting product is sprayed with plants affected by aphids.

Soap is necessary for the soda coating to last longer and work more effectively.

Coca Cola

A liter of the drink is poured into a wide container to release carbon dioxide. After a day, add 30 g of dissolved laundry soap. The acids contained in the drink are harmful to aphids.

A less concentrated composition is obtained if Coca-Cola is diluted with water in a 1: 2 ratio.

Sprayed with a spray bottle. After a week, the procedure can be repeated.

Hot pepper

1 kg of hot pepper pods is cut, placed in an enamel bucket, poured in 10 liters of water, covered with a lid and boiled over moderate heat for an hour. After that, allow to cool and insist for a day. Strain through several layers of gauze.

The resulting concentrate is poured into dark glass containers and stored in a cool place. The product does not lose its properties throughout the summer.

Before use, 125 ml of pepper concentrate is diluted in a bucket of water, dissolved laundry soap is added for better adhesion and the plantings are sprayed.

Horseradish leaves

Aphids do not tolerate caustic, burning substances. The leaves and roots of horseradish will help in the fight.

Cut fresh foliage and rhizome, fill a bucket with them by 1/3 of the volume and pour boiling water to the brim. Insist from 2 to 24 hours. Strain and use a sprayer to treat the affected plants.

Ammonia

Ammonium alcohol inhibits the respiration of aphids, causes convulsions, paralysis. Insects cannot stand the pungent smell.

Pure ammonia is harmful to the plant, therefore it is diluted with water. A tablespoon of ammonia is diluted in 10 liters of water, 40 g of laundry soap is added.

The solution is poured into a garden watering can and watered with aphid bushes. A sprayer is used to treat trees. The procedure is repeated after 1 month.

If several bushes are infected, after spraying, they are covered with plastic bags for 3-4 hours. In an enclosed space, ammonia vapors will work better.

A freshly prepared solution of ammonia is used. During storage, active substances volatilize from it, and it becomes ineffective.

Wood ash

For 5 liters of water, 1 glass of ash. Having mixed well, leave for a day. Then the garden crops are sprayed. Use a watering can, broom, or sprayer.

For better adhesion of the solution, 1/4 of a piece of rubbed laundry soap and diluted in warm water is added to it.

Onion peel

A tablespoon of husk is poured with a liter of boiling water, insisted in a glass or enamel bowl for 24 hours. The resulting saturated infusion is filtered, and before use, it is diluted with warm water in a ratio of 1: 2.

With the help of a sprayer or spray bottle, all ground parts of the crops are thoroughly treated.

Orange peels

Orange peel rich in phytoncides is an effective aphid remedy.

The orange peels are dried and crushed. A glass of crusts is poured into a bucket of water and insisted for 5 days in a dark place. Then the infusion is filtered, poured into a sprayer, and garden crops are treated with it every 3-4 days.

Mustard powder

The pungent mustard powder also works well against aphids. Small bushes affected by the pest can be dusted with mustard powder. For tall bushes and trees, make a solution.

Take a pack of powder on a bucket of water, stir thoroughly and leave for 2 days. Then diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1, add 40 g of laundry soap.

If the damage to aphids is significant, you can use undiluted infusion, but you must be careful with young plants so as not to burn the delicate foliage.

To enhance the action of mustard add 0.5 tbsp. 9% vinegar.

Mustard infusion is carried out every 7 days. Usually the result is noticeable after 2-3 applications, but sometimes these measures have to be repeated until the end of the season.

The main methods of dealing with aphids during the fruiting period of cucumbers

Common ants are the most common carriers of aphids. They create symbiosis - ants feed on the waste products of aphids, and aphids use ants for transportation. Therefore, before getting rid of aphids, it is necessary to treat the garden plot from ants. However, it is recommended to carry out processing before the beginning of the fruiting period of cucumbers so that the poison does not get into the fruits. An excellent solution would be to use anti-ant traps, which must be spread over the territory of the site. This will get rid of the ants, but the leaves and fruits of the cucumbers will not be treated with chemicals.

Also, during the fruiting period of cucumbers, it is extremely important to regularly weed the beds and avoid planting too dense. An excellent method of dealing with aphids is to plant mustard or dill near a garden bed with cucumbers. These cultures are very fond of ladybugs - the natural doctors of aphids. Insects will quickly move to the cucumber patch to help you kill the parasites.

How to get rid of aphids and ants without chemicals

In the spring - boiling water

As soon as the air temperature reaches +5 for 3-4 days, it is necessary to shed all fruit and berry bushes (currants, gooseberries, etc.) from the watering can from above with water heated to a boil.

Spring first spraying

If it is not possible to heat the water to a boil and for tall trees, a solution of vitriol and urea is suitable. 10 liters. water - 50 grams of copper sulfate + 700 grams of urea. This spraying is a prophylactic agent against various kinds of diseases and is done before other methods of dealing with ants and aphids are used. Attention! It is very ‘hot’ to plants, so use it only once and until the green cones of the leaves appear.

Add spices and odorous substances to the solution

This set of measures can also be started in early spring and continued until the aphids disappear completely. Usually, infusions with different compositions are used.
It can be ash, tobacco dust, hot red pepper (preferably ground), black pepper, dry mustard, onion peel or garlic waste. You can take all these substances at once (1: 1: 1: 1: 1) or only two of those suggested.
For example, 1 tbsp. ash, 1 tbsp. tobacco dust, 1 tbsp. Pour 1 liter of finely chopped garlic. water and let it brew for 2 days. Strain and add water to 10 liters. Add 50 ml of liquid tar soap, or any dishwashing detergent, or an infusion from shavings of laundry soap.
This solution should be enough for about 10 currant bushes.

Ordinary cinnamon will also help with ants. Scatter it on the ground where they congregate.

Use of drugs from veterinary pharmacies

Indeed, many gardeners, leaving for the dacha, take with them their pets - cats and dogs, stocking up in veterinary pharmacies with drugs for fleas and ticks. Flea medications, such as dog or cat flea shampoo, 500 ml per 10 liters of water, can help with aphids.
creolin solution 100ml. 5 liters. water plus 1 tbsp. l. dishwashing detergents (for sticking). It must be remembered that these preparations cannot be used during the ripening of berries and fruits.

BIO preparations

Fitoverm is considered effective and the safest. To "Fitoverm" you can add the drug "Dachnik". The drug "Aktofit" is also very effective. The Iskra Zolotaya drug is also moderately dangerous, but very effective.

As you can see, not all preparations are 100% safe, but they can be used, for example, on flower crops.

Soil cultivation under bushes

As already mentioned, ants carry aphids out of the ground, and if you see that there are a lot of them on the buds or apical leaves, then there is an ant clutch somewhere nearby. It is necessary to remove the top layer of earth, about 2-3 cm. When you see the clutch, scatter over it and over the ants with eggs such preparations as "Karbofos", "Fenaxin" or "Ant".

Beneficial insects against aphids and ants

Do not destroy natural "predators" - exterminators of ants and aphids. For example this:

  • Ladybugs - an adult of this insect destroys about 4-5 thousand aphids during its life, and 350 larvae in 8 days of development.
  • Firefighter Beetle - Helps to get rid of caterpillars and aphids.
  • Lacewing - its larvae, transparent gray and very mobile, destroy several thousand scale insects, aphids, spider mites and other harmful insects during the development period (about 60 days). Adult lacewings feed on flower nectar, pollen, sugary secretions from aphids or aphids and mites. 2 generations may appear per season.

Other emergency and preventive measures to get rid of aphids and ants

When transplanting bushes, trees, inspect their root system, if possible. Having found aphid nests, rinse the roots in a large container of water with the addition of any of the preparations described above or just laundry soap.

Do not plant bushes close to each other.

Try to trick the ants by scattering millet on the ground under the plantings. Some gardeners succeed in this way to drive the ants out of the area.

Plant a flower such as Tansy between the bushes. Its smell is disliked not only by ants, but also by flies, mice, and rats. You can scatter its flowers in places where insects accumulate.

Fighting ants outdoors - in the garden and vegetable garden - is always very difficult. This trap is probably the only remedy that will help you get rid of ants, almost certainly. Pay attention to how it is packed correctly!

When winter garlic begins to shoot, do not throw out its arrows, they will help drive the ants away: you can simply tie the tree trunks with arrows from garlic or grate them and spread them in piles in places where ants congregate.

Spray the plantings with a solution of baking soda and laundry soap.

Another recipe for "potion" against ants. Mix in 10 liters of water 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil, 2 tablespoons of shampoo (inexpensive or dishwashing detergent) and 0.5 liters of vinegar. In the place where the ants are congregating, make punctures with a stick and pour this solution into the holes.

Tear off the aphid-affected shoot apical leaves before any treatment.

It is necessary to treat plantations from aphids, ants and other pests even after harvesting, not forgetting about the ground under them.

Repeat sanitizing so that the aphids have no chance of returning to your plantings.

As you can see, there are a lot of methods for getting rid of aphids and ants. And someone can be helped by one, and to someone several at once. Try and share your experience on the pages of our website and the VKontakte group

Fighting garden aphids without chemicals

Aphid female giving birth to offspring

Natural enemy of aphids is a box butterfly, or ladybug. But no matter how many of them there are in our garden, they are not able to completely rid plants of aphids. And, saving trees and shrubs from numerous colonies of aphids, many gardeners resort to chemicals.

It is known that the sweet tooth ants are the first defenders of aphids. They graze aphids, as they feed on its sweet secretions. Moreover, protecting the aphids on the plants, the ants transfer the female aphids to the anthill for the winter, save them from the winter cold, and in the spring they deliver them to the trees.

Some amateur gardeners, knowing the role of ants in the life of aphids, destroy ants, which, of course, should not be done. You need to fight aphids, not ants. And in order for this fight to be successful and harmless to humans (refusal to use chemicals), it is necessary to know the reasons for the invasion of these harmful insects.
About twenty years ago I heard from a gardener that aphids develop only on fatty plants containing an excess of nitrogen. But I could not completely agree with this conclusion, because aphids often infect plants on sandy and sandy loam soils, poor in nitrogen. Of course, with an excess of nitrogen, the leaves on the plants are dense green and very juicy, with a large amount of nutritious juice for aphids.

Ant drinking aphid nectar

Many gardeners have become overly addicted to the use of a strong nitrogen fertilizer - urea. Foliar dressing with its solution sometimes leads to an excess nitrogen content in plants, contributing to the development and rapid reproduction of aphids. And yet, it is not only and not so much nitrogen as potassium. Sandy soils are poor in potassium, so aphids feel at ease.

With the correct ratio of potassium and nitrogen in plants or with a slight excess of the first over the second, the aphid dies from potassium poisoning. That is why I think the best way to combat aphids (as well as a means of prevention) is the systematic introduction of potassium into the soil, but not in the form of potassium salt or potassium chloride, but in the form of wood ash.

Under one adult tree I bring in a bucket of ash annually. If the tree was heavily affected by aphids, then the amount of ash is doubled.

Using this remedy for many years, I completely got rid of aphids on apples, cherries, red currants. In case of severe damage to aphids, especially young trees, he dusted the plants with ash, having previously moistened the affected areas with water.

Ash - this is also fertilization of the soil, especially since the potassium contained in it improves the taste of fruits, especially apples. Conversely, due to the lack of this chemical element, apples grown on sandy soils become starchy when ripe, and during storage they quickly develop heart rot.
